Peat

PROVEN SUBSTRATE STARTING MATERIAL

Peat has proven itself as a substrate starting material in production horticulture for more than half a century. Not without reason. It has ideal chemical, biological and physical properties and can be adapted to almost all horticultural crops. Due to its consistent properties, e.g. low pH value and nutrient neutrality, a substrate with peat is optimally adjustable in its production and is suitable for large-scale plant production.

RESPONSIBLE ACTIVITIES

Because no raw material has been found to date that fulfils all the criteria on its own as reliably as peat, it will remain an important component of growing media in the future, according to current knowledge. However, the aim is to use peat responsibly and only use as much as necessary.

We have our own peat extraction areas where both white peat (sod and milled peat) and black peat are extracted. Our own extraction not only guarantees the long-term supply of high-quality, weed-free peat. The peat is also extracted according to strict ecological criteria exclusively from areas that have already been drained and then rewetted and renaturalised. Read more about this on page 32.
